Help the Sichildren campaign to rescue orphans from malaria!

Firstly, we would like to thank our friends from all over the globe who have helped us so far. And we need your continued support – please read on!

Since the idea of setting up a charity came to Amani Afrika, our aim has been to stop hunger for orphans in Tanzania. So far we have been focusing on providing food to the orphanages around Tanzania by contributing 10% of the money that we receive for each trip, while Amani Afrika itself contributes 15% of all the profit made from each trip. This money has come from providing good services to our clients on safari trips to the Serengeti plains or to the Ngorongoro Crater, and on trips to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting with the Nkoaranga orphanage in Arusha, we have been helping the orphans as much as we can to ensure that their basic needs are met.

On 11th October 2009, a group of four clients from the UK, who had already done their Kilimanjaro climb as well as the three-day safari with other clients from Australia, got the chance to visit Nkoaranga orphanage. Many thanks to Kathleen Sanu, Richard Fetherston, Joe Jefferson, and Michael Brown, who came on the visit. They really felt the pain that Africans feel! At the orphanage, we found nine very young children suffering from malaria. Some of the children were as young as five or six months, and it was truly painful to see. This team from the UK provided the orphanage with three mosquito nets that they had used on their trip to Africa. We really appreciate their kindness.

The next day the Amani Afrika team went to do some research into why those children got malaria and we found that the mosquito nets that were being used were very old and had many holes. This meant that the mosquitoes could get in very easily and attack children while they were asleep. The team also found that the nets were not treated with mosquito repellent. The team did more research in other orphanages around Arusha and found the same problem.

Amani Afrika has now started a campaign to rescue orphans from malaria. Many thanks to all our clients who have chosen to travel with Amani Afrika as well as to all our friends who support us. So far, we have managed to provide 21 treated mosquito nets to cover 21 children who didn’t have good nets to protect them from malaria. Thank God that all 24 children at this particular orphanage are now well protected from malaria.

Rescuing orphans from malaria is our new campaign, and at the same time we continue with our food programme. And we don’t want to stop here. We want to provide more needed help to orphanages, and we hope that many other people will join us to help African children.

If you can help in any way, please contact us for more details. In advance many thanks for your support!
