Q What is the climate like in Tanzania?
The climate is warm and humid in the coastal regions but regulated by sea breezes. Temperatures range from 24 - 28 degrees C. The hottest period is from October to mid-March and the coldest from June to September. The rainy season is from mid-March to the end of June.

Q Can volunteers from any country participate?
We accept volunteers of all nationalities from all parts of the world.

Q What age do I have to be?
We welcome any age but volunteers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Q Is there any time of year that I can’t volunteer?
No: volunteers may work in Tanzania at all times of the year.

Q When will I know specific details about the placement?
Specific details of the placement are provided during orientation and training.

Q Where will I be located?
Our programme is located in the northern part of Tanzania.

Q How do I get to the project?
Volunteers are taken to the project location by our staff.

Q Do you make provision for special dietary needs?
Yes: we can cater for special dietary requirements such as vegetarian or traditional foods.

Q Who organises my visas for my volunteer placement?
You will organise your visa through your travel agent or independently. For citizens of most countries you can either do this when you arrive or before you get to Tanzania.

Q Are there more expenses once I arrive?
The programme fee covers accommodation, meals and transport during the programme. You will need to have some extra funds for food on days off, personal shopping and leisure time expenses.

Q What immunisation or vaccinations do I need?
Please consult with a medical professional or travel specialist.

Q Do I need to speak English?
Yes: English should be your first or second language.

Q What hours will I be expected to work?
A Between 4 to 6 hours a day. Weekends are free time.

Q Are we able to do any sightseeing?
Exploring the surroundings and going on safari are popular activities for many volunteers. We are able to assist with arranging different safari packages at competitive and specially discounted rates with our local tour operators that have been supporting us. 25% of all the income gained will be used to find education to indigenous children.

Q How safe is it to volunteer in Tanzania?
Tanzania is a peaceful country situated between turbulent neighbours. Safety is paramount to us and we endeavour to ensure the safety of all our volunteers. People are very warm and friendly towards foreigners however, common sense needs to be used. As you would be advised the world over: don’t go out wandering the street at night alone.

Q What is the course content of the training?
The training programme will be tailored to the volunteer’s needs and the length of their stay. Volunteers are given a general introduction to the Kiswahili language and cultural orientation.

Q How do I pay my programme fee?
Your programme fee is payable to Sichildren four weeks prior to the first day of the month in which you wish to volunteer. Remember that all charges incurred by the payment of the programme fee are at the volunteer’s expense. Bank transfers also incur bank fees at the point of origin at the volunteer’s expense. Once having decided to register as a volunteer we will send you all necessary payment details.
